Independent Whisky Bottler

There are two kinds of independent bottlers: those whose primary concern is the maturation of casks bought from distilleries in their own warehouses, and those who just bottle the casks as bought at the distillery.

Usually, a distillery owner bottles the product. However, from many distilleries there are also barrels of "free trade" spirits that the independent bottlers can buy and thus later bottle under their own brand. The reason why the barrels exist in the free market is that the distilleries need money, because many years go from distillation until the product is finished and ready for sale. Therefore, many distilleries sell some barrels of their young spirits to independent bottlers or the so-called "cask brokers", which are companies that sell casks to bottlers or private collectors / investors.
